正月の親戚の集まり。オタクAは久しぶりに会う親戚たちに囲まれている。
New Year's family gathering. Otaku A is surrounded by relatives he hasn't seen in a while.

叔父：「太郎くんも28歳か。彼女はいるの？」
Uncle: "Taro-kun is already 28. Do you have a girlfriend?"

オタクA：「あ、えーっと…まだです…」
Otaku A: "Oh, um... not yet..."

叔母：「趣味は何？出会いがないの？」
Aunt: "What are your hobbies? Don't you meet anyone?"

オタクA：「趣味は…えーっと…読書とか…」
Otaku A: "My hobbies are... um... reading and stuff..."

年上のいとこが興味深そうに近づいてくる。
An older cousin approaches with interest.

いとこ：「どんな本読むの？僕も本好きなんだ」
Cousin: "What kind of books do you read? I love books too"

オタクA：「あ…ラ、ライトノベルとか…」
Otaku A: "Oh... l-light novels and such..."

いとこ：「ライトノベル？アニメとかも見るの？」
Cousin: "Light novels? Do you watch anime too?"

沈黙が流れる。全員の視線がオタクAに集中している。
Silence flows. Everyone's eyes are focused on Otaku A.

オタクA：「まあ…少し…」
Otaku A: "Well... a little..."

叔父：「アニメか…子供っぽいな」
Uncle: "Anime huh... that's childish"

オタクAは心の中で叫んだ。「アニメは子供だけのものじゃない！」しかし声には出せなかった。
Otaku A screamed in his heart. "Anime isn't just for children!" But he couldn't say it out loud.
