The innkeeper warned us sternly, “Never enter the room at the end of the second floor.” In the middle of the night, I woke to use the bathroom and heard a faint “creak… creak…” from the sealed room upstairs. Curiosity got the better of me, and with a flashlight, I crept down the corridor. Through the closed shoji door, I saw the hazy silhouette of a woman swaying, as if watching me.
