村の外れにある古い神社に、夜遅く参拝に行った。苔むした石段を登ると、湿った空気と松の匂いが漂う。鳥居の下は月明かりに照らされ、静寂が重く圧し掛かる。地元では、この鳥居で昔、村人が消えたという噂があった。参拝を終え、鳥居をくぐろうとしたとき、「スッ…スッ…」と足音が背後から聞こえた。振り返ると、鳥居の下にぼんやりとした人影が立っている。古い着物を着たような姿だが、顔は真っ黒で目だけが光る。凍りついた私の耳に、「コッチ…オイデ…」と掠れた声が響いた。懐中電灯を向けると、影は消え、代わりに鳥居の柱に爪痕のような傷が浮かんでいた。恐怖で駆け下りたが、背後で足音が追いかけてくるようだった。村に戻り、古老に聞くと、鳥居で消えた村人が、夜な夜な参拝者を誘うという。鳥居の下にはまだ何かがいるのだと…。

I visited an ancient shrine on the edge of the village late at night. Climbing the mossy stone steps, the air was thick with the scent of pine and dampness. The torii gate glowed faintly under the moonlight, and a heavy silence pressed down. Locals spoke of a villager who vanished beneath this torii long ago. As I finished praying and approached the gate, I heard a soft “shuffle… shuffle…” behind me. Turning, I saw a hazy figure standing under the torii, dressed in an old kimono, its face a black void with glowing eyes. A raspy voice whispered, “Come… here…” My flashlight beam hit the figure, and it vanished, but claw-like marks appeared on the torii’s pillar. I ran down the steps, the sound of footsteps chasing me. Back in the village, an elder told me that the vanished villager still lures worshippers at night. Something lingers beneath that torii…
